Greetings and welcome. My name is John Jeffery and I am the new Director for Region E (Lewis, Herkimer and St Lawrence Counties) of the Adirondack Alliance of Lakes (ALA). I am an active member of the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association board of directors. As an officer of the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association I am currently leading initiatives in expanding our educational outreach programs to existing members, developing a more robust, data rich, user friendly website and initiating preliminary strategies to develop a watershed master plan for the Middle Branch Moose River watershed of which the Fulton Chain of Lake is the main body of water.
The beautiful lakes, rivers, streams and waterways within the Park are stressed by their success. Older and other than optimally maintained infrastructure, storm water runoff, road salt and last but not least invasive species continue to challenge the balance of the Park’s ecosystems.
The ALA’s mission is to continue to develop strong and lasting partnerships and act as a clearing house amongst the many lake, river associations within the Adirondack Park with the goal to help preserve and protect our very precious resource, water. In addition, the ALA is providing a voice amongst lake and river associations, local municipalities, regional non-profit organizations, watershed property owners, businesses and others who treasure and/or are dependent on them. As part of this mission the ALA collaborates with highly regarded institutions as Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages, Paul Smith’s Adirondack Watershed Institute and various other regional groups.
Personally, The Adirondacks, and the Fulton Chain of Lakes specifically, have been a four-season focal point for myself, children and grandchildren. Born in Syracuse, New York, I have camped, canoed, sailed and hiked the Adirondack Park for my whole life. My interest in ALA is to make every effort to preserve and protect this treasure for my children and grandchildren to have the same opportunities, experiences and joy of the outdoors that I have enjoyed in this very special place.
If you are a member, thank you. We look for your continued support and involvement. If you are not a member we invite you to join the ALA and help in building an Adirondack community of groups who are working hard to maintain the beauty, health and assets of the ADK Park.
